About the event
Fifteen years before the T&G Railroad arrived at Winter Garden, and 28 years before the T&G Railroad built the Winter Garden depot that now houses our Central Florida Railroad Museum, one extraordinary visionary imagined a railroad he named the Tavares, Apopka & Gulf. Alexander St. Clair-Abrams, an Attorney having boundless energy, founded the town of Tavares in 1881 as a railroad hub. He is indeed the man behind the T&G! Those who knew St. Clair-Abrams either loved him or despised him, there was no in-between. The importance of Alexander St. Clair-Abrams to the founding of Central Florida as we know it today is undeniable.
